Text & HTML guidelines

After reviewing your formal submission (via our online form), we will be in touch with more information on how to submit your material for consideration. Generally, the text and HTML guidelines for submission are as follows:

  • Text submissions (research articles and essays) should be 3000-7000 words long, although we will consider those that fall outside this range. Please include subtitles and chapter breaks.
  • Indicate if there is a photograph, graphic or potential visual component to your manuscript, and include that in your submission if possible.
  • Because the peer-review process requires anonymity, do not include information that identifies the author(s) by name in the text of your submission.
  • Text submissions should conform to The Chicago Manual of Style.  Please use endnotes with full bibliographic information and no separate bibliography. Reference examples can be found here. (If you are submitting from a scientific discipline, please contact the Managing Editor to discuss appropriate citation styles.)
  • All essay submissions should contain a recommended resources page. These should be divided by format into the following categories: Print Materials, Video/Audio, and Weblinks.
