Richard King

Owner, small family business (fishing, landscaping, farming, carpentry)

Richard King owns a small family business that does commercial salmon fishing in
Upper Cook Inlet, Alaska during the summer months. During the winter months
he operates a small organic citrus farm on the north shore of Kauai, Hawaii,
supplementing the family's income with fish sales, landscaping, and carpentry.

King's choice in writing poetry has always been rhyme. This began when his kids were little and he and his wife would dream up simple limericks on the boat to keep them occupied.

King's poetry describes the lifestyle and culture of the fishing family. Often the hardships, emotions, rewards or personal losses involved in the fishing industry become the focus of his writing. The humility of working a small boat on the Pacific Ocean, often with one other family member, drives him to try to describe their passion.
