Mark Auslander earned his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Chicago. He has undertaken ethnographic research in southern Africa and in the southern United States; he has interests in ritual, art, memory, cultural heritage, kinship and the family.

He is currently an assistant professor of anthropology at Brandeis University, where he directs the interdisciplinary M.A. program in cultural production.
