Seven Little Dances for Three

"Seven Little Dances for Three" is one of four dances that form an evening-length performance titled "...me so much nearer home." The concert celebrates family and community, with each dance - solo, duet, trio and quartet - introduced by a poem, and dedicated to or inspired by a family member. In making "Seven Little Dances for Three" choreographer Anna Leo sought to shape a dance that speaks to both the obvious and subtle connections shared by siblings, without creating a narrative. "As is often the case with my work, I began the dance with a list of words. I asked my brother and sister (as well as myself) to create lists of words that described themselves and each other. From these words I began to create abstract movement phrases, and then worked with the dancers to shape short solo sections and group interactions within the piece that reflected the personalities and various connections of my siblings," Leo says.
